What we do

Our mission is to become the most trusted online watchdog news site in New Mexico, offering compelling, nonpartisan reporting in the public interest.

From simple fact-check or data mapping stories to in-depth investigations, our reporting on government, regulation, public health, the economy and education will examine how government policies affect New Mexicans, while exposing abuses of power and betrayals of public trust.

Our reporting is largely documents-driven. With help from Document Cloud, we share source documents with readers whenever we can do so without compromising a source. If a document cited in our reporting is not published on the website, a clear reason will be provided.

Trust is earned. We pledge to comply with the ethical code of conduct of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).

We pledge transparency. Should potential conflicts of interest arise in our reporting, we will state so plainly in our stories. We will disclose funding sources on the website.

We are “public investigators.” We use investigative journalism and private investigation toolkits for news gathering in the public interest. But we will not engage in “undercover sting” stories or other activities that involve misrepresentation.

Veritas New Mexico is a completely independent, nonpartisan regional investigative news outlet, without political or corporate affiliation. We are in no way affiliated with James E. O’Keefe’s Washington, D.C.-based “Project Veritas.”
